Lighting for Crowndale Footpath
Tavistock residents are to benefit from a £40,000 Devon County street lighting scheme on the Crowndale footpath which runs alongside Tavistock Community Primary School and Tavistock College.
Work
is expected to start next month on installing the lights along the footpath from
the Primary School to the crossing of the National Cycle Network (NCN) with
lights ready to be switched on in May.
The scheme is being funded by Devon County Council’s Local Transport Plan, and will improve safety on the access to leisure facilities and the College. It will also meet Council’s strategic objective of making Devon greener, as the intention is for the lighting to be switched off between the hours of midnight and 6am, with the NCN crossing remaining on all night.
Councillor Roy Connelly, Devon County Councillor for Tavistock said:
“I’m pleased that we have been able to respond to the needs of the community. This scheme will help to improve the safety and security of all age groups in this area who use this important link. The National Cycle Network is now an integral part of Tavistock and the immediate surrounding area in providing access for cycling, walking and the promotion of tourism”
